February '08 Player Spotlight - Johanna Cargill What is there to say about Marina, besides she has this strange fettish for whips, knives, guns, chains, handcuffs, and anything else sexual in terms? Pretty much nothing else (or so she'd like you to think), but Marina is just as caring and huggable as a kitten! With her upbeat attitude and caring nature, she's always around to land a hand, or on the flipside, with her finger-snapping, whip cracking, and punch beating personality, she also isn't one you want to piss off! Without the two different sides of her personality, we'd never know how personable Marina really is. Thanks to Marina, the board gets to experience a fighting-spirit Cargill and an equally intelligent Sabra. |

There were few things that Ruth Bat-Seraph tolerated when it came to bad behavior. The occasional temper tantrum was normal and expected when working with children ranging from a year to five years. When those children got past that age where the world was new and everything was bigger than they were, Sabra didn’t take it anymore. However, when children were spoiled and coddled, shown no bonds or boundaries, this was what resulted: rude, disrespectful, churlish adults. Not that Jamie had done anything particular to anger Ruth, for it was his prerogative to do what he pleased; it was a luxury that came with adulthood. However, once he infringed on the good hospitality of this home and besmirched his own good name, then it was time for her to step in.
Above all things, Ruth was a mother first and foremost. Before she was a mutant, before she was a woman, before she was a role model…there was always that concussive female force that only den mothers exuded in spades. And it was for this reason that Sabra found herself smiling; she had so missed the lovely Xian while she was away. Very few people had made such an impression as this strong young lady and Ruth wondered daily how she was going. She lamented not being able to tell the woman goodbye before she left but necessity dictated that she left immediately. The last flight to Israel had been chartered for that month and then they’d go on a month long blackout period to allow for the Jewish holy days to go on uninterrupted. Planes did not fly to Ashdad or dare even fly over Tel Aviv during the holiest of holy days…and Ruth felt in her soul the need to return back there before that time. Smiling softly, Sabra moved further into the room where people were coming and going, all at once. It was just like old times, familiar faces (although she couldn’t say with any sort of confidence that she knew all of them) and wonderful company. "Ruth! Where have you been?" Moving toward the girl, she slipped her arms around the girl’s shoulder and hugged her warmly. Pulling back slightly, Ruth met her eyes, “I returned to Israel for a time. I felt it important to return to my roots, to return to my faith…” She didn’t add that she had also needed that time to return to her child. “There were a few things that I needed to take care of. My only regret is that I could not say goodbye before I left.” Now that she was back home, she could see how much her presence affected the people she cared about. “I see I have missed much…we must make plans to speak at length.” But right now, she had a disrespectful gentleman to take care of. Turning her gaze back to Jamie, she found herself stern-faced—a look she had all but perfected over the years. And yet there was a ghost of a smile playing on her lips. Just the adorable way he kept making little noises made her want to laugh outright. “Whu…?” Biting her lip to keep from laughing, she continued to hold the cup out to him. “Whuu…?” This time, Ruth couldn’t help it, she chortled softly…her eye dancing with the hilarity of it all. He took the cup back then, their fingers brushing ever so lightly as he did so. “I…I mean…I’m…sorry? I was going to pick it up when I left, it was just there was nowhere…and I was watching the…and talking to…” Nodding curtly, she took just a hairbreadth of a step backward, keeping her eyes on his. He was flustered; it didn’t take a genius to figure that one out. But she couldn’t quite understand why that was…had her sweater come unbuttoned? Did she have something in her teeth? Had he seen a ghost? Continuing to watch him flub through yet another round of hesitations and what might pass for mildly witty repartee, she shook her head. “Erm…who are you, lady? I take it you are not the Professor’s new housekeeper?” Raising an eyebrow, she shrugged, “It’s not my job to keep this establishment clean,” She said with a modicum of sassiness in her tone. “However, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep this home clean and in order. The floor is not an appropriate storage space for your discarded dishes.” Ruth had a way of being truly cutting without saying anything harshly at all. In fact she almost looked pleasant while she chastised him for his churlish behavior. “And my name is not lady, sir. I am Ruth Bat-Seraph…or, if you wish, you can call me Sabra.” Xi’an seemed to be headed somewhere although she found herself hoping that the girl wasn’t going far. She really had missed all of her friends, Xi’an, Celeste and her sisters, everyone she had made the acquaintance of during her first stint with he X-men. “Ruth, eh?” Staring him down she nodded and then took the hand he extended to her, shaking it politely before dropping her hands to her sides. “Pleasure, I’m sure. The name’s Madrox. Are you…err…not staying then?” “Madrox, are you trying to get me to leave now that I’ve only just arrived home again?” Perhaps it wasn’t much of a joke but he seemed eager to leave her presence. “I assure you I don’t bite and I’m completely housebroken…you have no reason to worry about my presence here. I merely returned home to Israel for a brief sojourn. Now, I am fully rested and restored and ready to get to work.” Of course there was still one man in the room who she didn’t know…and had a feeling she didn’t care to either. But he certainly grabbed her attention when he near-yelled, "Yo, you guys might wanna look at this." She was about to scold him to use his ‘indoor voice’ when she realized the magnitude of what he was showing them. Apocalypse…a man she knew of from his wicked deeds. The Mossad kept her up to date on the world’s terrorists and killers…and he was a man who she knew all too well. "... Damn. The Reign of Apocalypse, huh? Whatever." Turning to him, Ruth narrowed her eye, “To show no fear is a skill worthy of the strongest warrior…to feel no fear is sheer stupidity. You’d do well to remember that, friend.” And that was advice to live by. | |
