June '07 Player Spotlight - Warrior of Fate
Eric is an experienced RPer who, while having a history of playing various characters on different boards in the past, has settled down on Nexus with Archangel, honing his skills and perfecting his portrayal of that character. He’s been with us for nearly a year, and in that time has shown great skill, portraying a complex and interesting Warren. While he does not forget the brooding nature of his character, he does not fall into the trap of hitting a single note with every post. Instead he makes and intriguing blend, giving his character moments of relief, of happiness, and bits and pieces of the old Angel showing through while reminding the readers that he has changed since first joining the X-Men.

In the old days, that time before there were X-Men, there was a man. An angel to be specific. Though his name has varied over the years, in those days he preferred to be called the 'Avenging' Angel. It was a short stint in the life of Warren Worthington III in which he had first begun to embrace his newfound status as a mutant. During this brief time, Warren sought to go the way of "with great power, comes great responsibility," and set about solving crimes as a costumed super hero. Not to tote his own horn, but he thought he did a pretty good job at it as well. Yes, it was safe to say that he was a naive youth.

Still, they were fond memories. It was a great way to reflect on the good days, before Charles Xavier and the decision which would ultimately change Warren's life forever. Had he continued to live on as the 'Avenging Angel', the chances of him ever becoming an X-Man would have been slim to none. Then there would have been no early incarnation of X-Factor, at least not with him as a founding member. With no Angel, there surely could have been no fallen hero whose emotions had sunk to an all time low. No broken spirit whom sought help from the worst possible mutant to ever walk the Earth. Yes, his feathered wings would have remained gone for all of eternity, but Warren never would have put himself through the ordeal to acquire the metal machinations which currently rested on his back.

Alas, all things happened for a reason as Archangel had come to realize. Still, soaring above the skies of New York City, Warren longed for the days of old. That time when things were just so simple, and everything was new. Now, life was far from simple, and everything seemed to losing life. An omen perhaps, but the skies was Worthington's only escape from the pressures of his mundane existence. The X-Men were currently scattered, handling various missions. Team Napalm was the only team that had yet to be deployed for an assignment, but half of the the members listed on that detail were M.I.A. at the moment.

With his wings spread to length, Warren was reliving his past, observing the streets of New York from thousands of feet in the sky. His enhanced sight allowed him to focus on the ground level as if he was walking amongst the other humans. How strange that on this day when he chose to remember his early years of adventure, that he would happen upon what appeared to be a bank robbery. Not one of the norm either, no these criminals were of the super-villian type. With no sight of Spider Man, Warren chose to handle the situation on his own. Rotating his body so that he dove in a tilted spiral, the ground beneath came up at extremely high speeds. Once he felt himself at roughly around a hundred feet or so, the X-Man drew upon the air around to halt his descent as he fired off a barrage of neuro-toxin feathers, each hitting their marks into the golden plated robbers. The police had taken to the scene, but for fear of civilians, were unable to shoot without being attacked first. Archangel didn't need to worry about such liabilities.

The feathers each hitting their marks, it was only a matter of time before the effects ran their course. Slowly coming down into his descent, he landed in such an awe inspiring way that quickly people gathered around to get a look at the 'Angel from Heaven', that had come to save the day. Ignoring the chatter, Warren simply wanted to ensure that such criminals were subdued, and seen to by the proper authorities. His mutant status aside, at the moment, he was a hero, a label he preffered much more than the more prejudiced type.
